"The Albury Wodonga Easter Hockey Carnival has reluctantly been cancelled this year as it requires a review of the format” stated President of Hockey Albury Wodonga, Bert Eastoe. This follows a decline in team entries from a peak of over 150 teams in the late 1980’s to 12 teams last year.  This year there has been overseas interest, however local and regional interest has not justified holding the Carnival.  Read the attached document for more information.

Hockey Albury Wodonga coaches will be visiting the areas of Albury Wodonga and surrounds from Monday 8 February – Friday 19 February as part of Hockey Victoria’s state-wide Schools Roadshow recruitment drive.

The Roadshow program, now in its seventh year, will introduce 65,000 primary schools students to hockey throughout Victoria. Andrew Skillern, CEO of Hockey Victoria, said “Our hockey roadshow is one of the industry’s most professionally run programs.  It’s all about both girls and boys being exposed to how fun hockey is and why it’s the sport of choice for many Victorian’s.  Our programs are strongly linked with our clubs and associations and form an important start to our sports sustainability across Victoria.”

Students who participate in the Roadshow clinics will be encouraged to try the sport through the national Hookin2Hockey program. Hookin2Hockey is a fun, safe and affordable program which aims to teach the basics of hockey in a modified game-based environment.

3,000 primary school students will be visited through the region which will see a huge boost in numbers for Hockey Albury Wodonga. Local Hookin2Hockey programs will be run in Albury, Wodonga, Corowa, Rutherglen, Beechworth and Wangaratta anyone interested in trying Hockey is encouraged to contact Sharyn Norie on 0419 145 075 for more information.

Michaela Cook, Hockey Victoria Community Hockey Coordinator said “Hockey Albury Wodonga is our biggest Regional Association. Their continued commitment to junior development ensures they can offer a range of programs to suit families and local community members”.
